Daytime Pet Care Associate (Activity Leader & Front Desk)

This position is a combination of Outdoor Activity Leader and Indoor Front Desk Associate. Every team member is cross-trained and may work either position depending on the day's schedule and business needs. Successful applicants must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors while providing exceptional care for our pets and outstanding customer service for our pet parents.
Schedule
- Day shifts between 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Approximately 15–35 hours per week
- **Must be available to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed**
Starting Pay: $16.85–$18.50 per hour (Entry Level position)
Outdoor Activity Leader Responsibilities
As an Activity Leader, you'll spend your shift outdoors supervising our large off-leash daycare playgroups and ensuring every dog has a safe, enriching, and fun experience.
At Scooby Shack, safety starts with knowing our dogs.
We don't simply watch playgroups—we build relationships. Every Activity Leader is expected to learn each dog's personality, play style, favorite friends, and which dogs should not interact. We care for every dog as if they were our own because that's what keeps Scooby Shack a safe and happy place to play. We are a Cage-Free facility and want our pups to Stay Happy. Roam Free!
Responsibilities include:
- Safely supervise large off-leash playgroups (50+ dogs)
- Learn every dog's personality, play style, and individual needs
- Know which dogs are best friends, and which dogs should not be paired together.
- Build trusting relationships with every dog and care for them like they're your own
- Monitor dog body language and recognize signs of stress, anxiety, illness, or escalating behavior
- Redirect inappropriate behavior while encouraging safe, positive play
- Maintain clean, sanitized, and safe outdoor play yards throughout the day
- Feed meals and administer medications according to individual care instructions
- Take fun photos and complete daily report cards for pet parents
- Communicate important observations with fellow team members
- Remain active while working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
Indoor Front Desk Associate Responsibilities
As a Front Desk Associate, you'll be the welcoming face of Scooby Shack while caring for our small dog playgroups and boarding cats.
Responsibilities include:
- Welcome pet parents during check-in and check-out
- Answer phones and provide outstanding customer service
- Schedule daycare, boarding, grooming, and evaluation appointments
- Process payments and manage customer accounts using our reservation software
- Monitor and care for our small dog playgroups and boarding cats
- Feed meals and administer medications
- Complete report cards and take photos to keep pet parents updated
- Maintain accurate pet records and communicate important information with the care team
- Keep the lobby, indoor pet areas, and cat accommodations clean, organized, and welcoming
- Build lasting relationships with pet parents by providing friendly, knowledgeable service
Qualifications
- Must LOVE dogs and cats!
- Reliable transportation
- Dependable, punctual, and professional
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Comfortable using computers, learning reservation software, answering phones, and multitasking
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all breeds, sizes, and energy levels
- Ability to recognize signs of stress, anxiety, illness, or escalating behavior
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions
- Ability to remain calm and make good decisions in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work, including standing, walking, bending, cleaning, and remaining active throughout the day
Experience working with dogs, cats, boarding facilities, veterinary clinics, grooming salons, daycare facilities, or customer service is preferred but not required. We are happy to train the right person with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine passion for animals.
