Pharmacy Technician Job Overview
We are seeking a dependable and patient-focused Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will assist with prescription processing, refill coordination, medication dispensing, and outstanding customer service. This position plays a key role in supporting patients by ensuring prescriptions are processed accurately and efficiently while maintaining compliance with all federal and state pharmacy regulations.
Responsibilities
- Contact patients to coordinate prescription refills and assess refill needs.
- Process refill requests in accordance with pharmacy policies and under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Enter and type new prescriptions and refill prescriptions accurately into the pharmacy management system.
- Prepare, package, label, and fill prescriptions for pharmacist verification.
- Assist pharmacists with dispensing medications while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and assist patients with prescription-related questions or direct clinical questions to the pharmacist.
- Communicate with providers' offices regarding refill requests, prescription clarifications, prior authorizations, and missing information.
- Verify patient demographic and insurance information as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with pharmacy regulations.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, stocking, rotating, and ordering medications and supplies.
- Ensure medications are stored and handled according to applicable regulations and manufacturer requirements.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, state Board of Pharmacy regulations, and pharmacy policies.
- Provide courteous, professional, and compassionate customer service to patients, providers, and clinic staff.
- Perform other pharmacy-related duties as assigned by the Pharmacist-in-Charge.
Qualifications
- Current Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure as required by the state.
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year of pharmacy technician experience preferred; retail, specialty, or outpatient pharmacy experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with pharmacy management software and electronic health records preferred.
- Strong typing and data entry skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and customer service skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and prescription processing procedures.
- Familiarity with third-party insurance billing and prior authorization processes is preferred.
- Understanding of HIPAA privacy and confidentiality requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists, providers, clinic staff, and patients.
- Commitment to accuracy, patient safety, and exceptional customer service.
Pay: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour
