CDL A Heavy Haul / Oversize Truck DriverOverview
We are seeking an experienced and dependable CDL A Heavy Haul / Oversize Truck Driver to join our team. This position specializes in transporting heavy and oversized construction equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, cranes, graders, and other heavy machinery.
Our drivers are responsible for safely loading, securing, transporting, and unloading equipment while complying with all DOT, FMCSA, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy-haul tractor-trailers, understands proper equipment securement, and is comfortable navigating permitted oversize and overweight routes.

Duties
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles hauling heavy and oversized construction equipment
- Transport excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, cranes, skid steers, articulated trucks, and other construction and industrial equipment
- Operate lowboy, RGN (removable gooseneck), step-deck, flatbed, and other specialized heavy-haul trailers
- Safely load and unload construction equipment while following proper loading procedures and weight-distribution requirements
- Properly secure equipment using chains, binders, straps, blocking, and other approved securement methods in accordance with DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of tractors, trailers, securement equipment, and transported machinery
- Verify equipment dimensions, axle weights, overall weight, and load placement before transport
- Follow oversize and overweight permits, approved routes, bridge restrictions, curfews, and other permit requirements
- Coordinate with dispatch, customers, construction crews, equipment operators, and pilot/escort vehicles when required
- Safely navigate construction sites, equipment yards, tight-access locations, and other challenging loading and delivery environments
- Maintain accurate electronic logs, bills of lading, permits, inspection records, and other required transportation documentation
- Monitor load securement throughout transport and make adjustments when necessary
- Maintain professional communication with customers and represent the company in a safe and professional manner
- Comply with all DOT, FMCSA, state, local, and company safety requirements
Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable CDL Class A commercial driving experience required
- Clean and acceptable driving record
- Heavy-haul, lowboy, RGN, flatbed, or construction-equipment hauling experience strongly preferred
- Sliding axle trailer experience strongly preferred
- Experience operating a manual-transmission tractor required
- Experience loading, securing, and transporting heavy construction equipment required
- Strong knowledge of DOT cargo securement requirements
- Familiarity with oversize/overweight permits and permitted-route requirements
- Ability to safely use chains, binders, straps, blocking, and other heavy-equipment securement systems
- Ability to perform thorough vehicle, trailer, and load inspections
- Comfortable operating in construction sites, equipment yards, and other demanding environments
- Ability to work independently and make safe decisions while on the road or at a jobsite
- Strong communication and time-management skills
- Must maintain compliance with all applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements
