Duties
- Install, repair, and maintain overhead and underground electrical distribution lines using rigging techniques and bucket trucks.
- Climb poles safely using appropriate climbing gear, adhering to safety standards such as NEC (National Electrical Code) regulations.
- Operate bucket trucks and other specialized equipment for high-voltage line work, ensuring precise control during field service operations.
- Conduct cabling, wiring, and conduit installations on construction sites or utility projects with attention to detail.
- Read blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to accurately execute electrical tasks in accordance with industry standards.
- Perform utility locating to identify underground cables before excavation or construction activities.
- Use tools such as ohmmeters for testing electrical circuits, troubleshoot low voltage and high voltage systems, and ensure proper grounding.
- Assist with tree trimming around power lines to prevent outages and maintain clearance safety zones.
- Engage in welding tasks when necessary for line repairs or structural support projects.
- Follow safety protocols diligently while working on high-voltage systems or in potentially hazardous environments.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skill in rigging, climbing poles, bucket operation, and working at heights using bucket trucks or similar equipment.
- Strong understanding of NEC (National Electrical Code) standards related to high voltage and low voltage systems.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams accurately.
- Experience with cabling installation on construction sites or utility projects is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of utility locating techniques and tools such as ground penetrating radar (GPR) or electromagnetic locators.
- Familiarity with IT infrastructure related to utility management or communication systems is a plus.
- Skilled in welding processes for structural repairs or line extensions.
- Field service experience working outdoors in various weather conditions is essential.
- Ability to operate bucket trucks safely while performing complex tasks at elevated heights.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues efficiently using tools like ohmmeters.
- Valid certifications in climbing safety, rigging, or OSHA standards are preferred; relevant training will be provided if necessary. Embark on a career that energizes your skills!
