The Town of Yarmouth is searching for a Shellfish Constable to join their Natural Resources team!
Protects shellfish populations by performing water quality testing of pollution sources and shellfish areas in four major bodies of water (Lewis Bay, Bass River, Parker’s River and Cape Cod Bay) and their tributaries. Working under the general direction of the Director of Natural Resources or designee, the Shellfish Constable enforces shellfish regulations pursuant to MGL, Chapter 130 and local by-laws. Propagates area waters through shellfish relays and by maintaining Town upweller systems.
The Aquaculture and Water Quality Technician/Shellfish Constable falls under the Division of Natural Resources and shall be cross trained to provide coverage in other sections of Natural Resources, including Animal Control as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director on a temporary basis.
Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates.
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field; minimum of one year experience in shellfish aquaculture; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must meet requirements set forth in MGL Ch 130 section 98 for Shellfish Constable Appointment within 3 years. Training and experience in the field of shellfishery management, as Shellfish Constable, or Deputy Shellfish Constable; or completion of Shellfish Warden training course at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Completion of the Animal Control Officers Association of Massachusetts Academy within 2 years of hire. Completion of the Massachusetts Animal Fund ACO Core Competency Training required within 1 year of hire. Rabies vaccination recommended.
Must complete and maintain CPR and First Responder’s Training.
Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator's license required.
Physical requirements include moderate to strenuous physical effort required when performing duties. Must be able to lift, move, and/or push objects which weigh eighty pounds or more as well as climb, stoop, crawl, and kneel for extended periods of time. Frequently required to work outside during inclement weather conditions.
