The Safety Coordinator supports Human Technologies’ mission of Creating Employment for People with Disabilities by supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's health and safety programs. Working under the direction of the Director, this position helps promote a positive safety culture by conducting training, performing workplace inspections, assisting with incident investigations, and encouraging employees to work safely. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual with strong communication and organizational skills who is eager to learn and grow in the safety profession.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct company-wide safety orientation and training programs under the guidance of the Director.
2. Assist in developing and delivering ongoing safety training and educational materials.
3. Perform routine workplace inspections and identify potential hazards.
4. Work with supervisors and employees to ensure identified hazards are corrected in a timely manner.
5. Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee involvement, safe work practices, and open communication regarding safety concerns.
6. Assist with investigating workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage to identify contributing factors and recommend corrective actions.
7. Maintain safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, and other required files.
8. Support compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations.
9. Participate in safety meetings, committee activities, and employee engagement initiatives.
10. Assist with emergency preparedness activities, drills, and safety communications.
11. Help monitor safety performance and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement.
12. Communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization regarding safety expectations and best practices.
13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. No prior safety experience is required; on-the-job training will be provided.
3. Previous experience in construction, manufacturing, industrial, transportation, warehouse, or other hands-on work environments is preferred but not required.
4. Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.
5. Willingness to learn applicable safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
6. Ability to obtain required safety certifications and complete company-sponsored training.
7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
8. Ability to speak confidently in front of groups and conduct employee training.
9. Good organizational and time management skills.
10. Ability to observe workplace conditions and recognize potential hazards.
11. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
12. Positive attitude with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
13. Dependable, eager to learn, and committed to helping create a safe work environment. Understands requirement to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated work areas.
14. Lead by example, communicate effectively with employees, and work closely with the Director and operational leaders to build a workplace where safety is a shared responsibility.
15. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or similar software.
16. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
17. Ability to work both in office and operational environments including manufacturing, warehouse, construction, or field locations. Ability to handle exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying environmental conditions.
18. Ability to walk throughout company facilities and job sites for extended periods with or without accommodation. Ability to climb stairs, bend, kneel, occasionally lift up to 30 pounds, and work in varying weather conditions with our without accommodation.
As per NYS Law, the full salary range is $20.89 - $29.50 per hour. However, our Compensation System is designed to hire new employees between the rates listed above.
