Job Summary
micro1 is seeking Physics Experts (Postdoctoral Researchers and Junior Professors) to support AI Training and evaluation projects by reviewing advanced scientific content, evaluating mathematical reasoning, and providing expert technical feedback. In this role, you will apply your expertise to help improve next-generation AI systems by assessing research-level physics solutions, identifying scientific inaccuracies, and strengthening AI reasoning across complex physics domains.
This is an hourly-paid contract opportunity, not a traditional academic or research position. Contributors will work on project-based AI training and evaluation tasks designed to improve how AI systems understand, critique, and reason about advanced physics, mathematical derivations, and scientific problem-solving.
No prior AI experience is required. What matters most is deep research expertise, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts with clarity and precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to AI training, benchmarking, and evaluation projects involving advanced physics and scientific reasoning.
- Critically review physics solutions, mathematical derivations, and theoretical analyses generated by researchers or AI systems.
- Identify scientific errors, unjustified assumptions, missing derivation steps, dimensional inconsistencies, and logical weaknesses.
- Distinguish substantive scientific issues from stylistic or presentation-related concerns.
- Provide clear, technically rigorous written feedback that explains identified issues and recommends improvements.
- Suggest optimizations to strengthen correct reasoning, improve clarity, and enhance scientific accuracy.
- Utilize LaTeX, Python, SymPy, and Jupyter Notebook to independently verify calculations, derivations, and scientific claims where appropriate.
- Collaborate remotely with multidisciplinary teams to improve AI reasoning and evaluation quality.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- PhD in Physics with an active research record in a specialized area of physics.
- Experience as a postdoctoral researcher, research fellow, assistant professor, junior professor, or senior research scientist.
- Deep expertise in one or more areas such as High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biophysics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, AMO Physics, Quantum Optics, Gravitation, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Materials.
- Strong ability to critically evaluate scientific work and identify technical inaccuracies.
- Advanced proficiency with LaTeX, Python, SymPy, and Jupyter Notebook.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing scientific work through peer review, student supervision, dissertation committees, or research collaboration.
- Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to deliver constructive, technically precise feedback.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recent peer-reviewed publications or preprints (within the past five years) with accessible arXiv or DOI records.
- Strong background in theoretical modeling, computational physics, or advanced mathematical analysis.
- Experience mentoring researchers or supervising graduate-level scientific work.
- Interest in AI, scientific computing, or applying research expertise to emerging technology platforms.
- Reliable high-speed internet access and computing resources suitable for advanced technical work.
Additional Information
This opportunity is ideal for postdoctoral researchers, assistant professors, junior professors, and experienced research scientists who want to apply their expertise to the development of next-generation AI systems. Your work will directly influence how AI models evaluate scientific reasoning, verify mathematical derivations, identify subtle errors, and improve research-level understanding across advanced physics disciplines.
