Substitute Teacher Responsibilities:
- Follow or create lesson plans to engage students.
- Provide a structured, positive learning environment.
- Maintain classroom management and student engagement.
- Monitor attendance and student behavior.
- Communicate with school staff and leave notes for the returning teacher.
- Build positive relationships with students and administrators.
What You Need to Qualify as a Substitute Teacher:
- At least 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university (minimum 2.0 GPA).
- A teaching certificate is not required; however, applicants with teaching experience or a valid teaching certificate are encouraged to apply.
- We welcome individuals who are dependable, professional, and passionate about supporting student success.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Michigan substitute teaching permit (SES will guide eligible applicants through the process).
Paraprofessional (Teacher Aide) Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one supervision under the teacher’s direction.
- Assist in classroom management and student supervision.
- Support small-group instruction and individualized learning.
- Foster social and emotional growth in students.
- Record student progress and behaviors to assist teachers.
- Offer instructional support services as assigned.
What You Need to Qualify as a Paraprofessional (Teacher Assistant):
✔ 30 college credit or more
✔ Experience working with students with special needs is a plus.
✔ Ability to follow teacher instructions and school policies.
✔ Strong communication, patience, and creativity.
✔ A passion for supporting student success and learning.
✔ Completion of WorkKeys Assessment and community college credit.

Physical Requirements
Substitute teachers must be able to perform the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to standing for extended periods of time, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and occasionally lifting classroom materials. The school environment may include elevated noise levels.
