This role is critical to protecting our employees, maintaining regulatory compliance, and strengthening a safety culture within a fast-paced, high-hazard metal recycling operation.

This is a hands-on role for a professional who leads through influence, sound judgment, and accountability.

· Work directly with operations teams to identify hazards and implement practical, effective solutions
· Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for yard, shredder, and torch operations
· Oversee LOTO, confined space, and machine guarding programs
· Promote a strong, accountable safety culture through engagement—not just enforcement
Regulatory Compliance
· Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations
· Manage environmental permits (air, stormwater, waste)
· Maintain SPCC, SWPPP, and other required plans
· Lead inspections, audits, and regulatory interactions
Environmental Management
· Oversee proper handling of fluids, batteries, and regulated materials
· Manage spill prevention and response programs
· Monitor stormwater and site conditions to prevent contamination
Training & Development
· Deliver safety training, onboarding, toolbox talks, and ongoing education
· Ensure workforce competency in high-risk tasks and proper PPE use
Incident & Risk Management
· Investigate injuries, near misses, and environmental incidents
· Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
· Conduct routine audits and hazard assessments
Emergency Preparedness
· Maintain emergency response plans (fire, spill, severe weather)
· Coordinate with local emergency responders
Requirements
- · Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations
- · Experience in high-risk industrial environments (metal recycling, heavy equipment, or similar)
- · Ability to lead safety initiatives while building trust with operations teams
- · Strong communication, training, and problem-solving skills
- · Ability to use sound judgment in balancing safety, compliance, and operational need
- Preferred CSP, OSHA 30, or HAZWOPER certifications and Experience in metal recycling, scrap yards, or related industries
This position plays a key role in shaping a safety culture that is both effective and sustainable. Success in this role means protecting people, supporting operations, and building systems that work in the real world—not just on paper.
