Duties
- Design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) aligned with each student’s unique needs and goals
- Deliver targeted instruction in core subjects such as literacy, math, and social skills using evidence-based teaching methods
- Adapt curriculum materials and instructional techniques to accommodate students with various disabilities and learning styles
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers to modify classroom activities and support inclusive practices
- Conduct assessments to monitor student progress, including standardized testing and formative evaluations
- Provide behavioral therapy techniques and behavioral management strategies to promote positive classroom behavior
- Offer speech therapy, music therapy, or other specialized interventions when applicable to enhance communication skills
- Mentor and train classroom staff and paraprofessionals on best practices for supporting students with disabilities
- Facilitate communication between families, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive support
- Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, IEP goals, and behavioral reports in compliance with district policies
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and individualized instruction strategies
- Proficiency in learning technology tools used for instructional design and student engagement
- Experience working with individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, visual impairments, or hearing impairments
- Strong classroom management skills to create safe and nurturing learning environments
- Ability to develop creative lesson plans that incorporate speech therapy techniques, behavioral therapy, or recreational therapy as needed
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with students, families, staff, and external specialists
- Familiarity with early childhood education principles and preschool or toddler care settings
- Skilled in applying behavior analysis (ABA), instructional design principles, and literacy or math interventions
- Ability to adapt teaching methods for children at various developmental stages including early intervention programs and preschool settings
- Knowledge of assistive technologies and accommodations for students with disabilities
- Demonstrated ability to provide mentorship and guidance to colleagues or student teachers
