Miller Transfer is seeking a motivated, well-rounded accounting professional to join our accounting department as an Accounting Specialist. This position is ideal for someone with solid, broad-based accounting clerical experience who can move comfortably between payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable work. Payroll and driver settlements are a core part of the role, but we're just as interested in candidates who bring strong all-around accounting skills and thrive in a busy, multi-tasking environment. The Accounting Specialist will work on site, Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00pm
Responsibilities:
- Prepare weekly payroll for company personnel, including timecard review, expense validation, benefit and deduction accuracy, and submission of withholding payments.
- Process daily payments to independent contractors, ensuring accurate deduction of advances, insurance, escrow, and other withholdings.
- Maintain and reconcile contractor escrow and deduction accounts.
- Respond to contractor inquiries regarding settlements, deductions, and payment status in a timely and professional manner.
- Review state permit data entry and complete monthly reconciliations.
- Perform daily cash application and prepare bank deposits.
- Assist with preparation and distribution of W-2 and 1099 forms.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Experience Desired:
- Associate's Degree in Accounting, or equivalent hands-on accounting experience.
- 2+ years of well-rounded accounting clerical experience, ideally spanning payroll/driver settlements, accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable; transportation or logistics industry experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Will require an Excel test prior to hire.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMW preferred).
- Familiarity with accounting systems (Great Plains preferred).
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Highly organized with a strong focus on accuracy and detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and prioritize effectively.
