Job Overview
The Cemetery Operations Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining gravesites for a burial. In this position you will ensure graveside services are setup professionally and respectfuly while safely operating equipment to perform interments and related cemetery operations. This energetic and detail-oriented position offers an opportunity to work outdoors while ensuring the property remains pristine, welcoming, and respectful for visitors and families.
As a Cemetery Operations Specialist, you will also assist with monument care, helping preserve both the functionality and aesthetic of our sacred space. Your dedication will directly contribute to honoring those laid to rest and providing comfort to the families we serve.
Duties
- Open and close gravespaces in accordance with burial schedules and procedures
- Probe and locate grave spaces accurately for upcoming services and installations
- Install, set, and maintain monuments and markers, ensuring proper placement and alignment
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for groundskeeping and burial-related tasks
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, tools, and funeral home to ensure safe and efficient operation
Experience
- Prior experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, cemetery operations, or a related field is highly preferred
- Experience with grave opening/closing, monument installation, or willingness to learn
- Ability to operate hand tools (shovels, rakes, pruners), power tools (trimmers, blowers, etc.), and safely drive and operate a tractor.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining respectful, well-kept grounds
- Understanding of safety procedures related to equipment use and outdoor work environments
Pay
Piece-rate pay based on completed work:
- $250 - Complete grave opening and closing
- $125 - Grave opening only
- $125 - Grave closing only
- Additional compensation may be provided for other assigned duties as applicable.
