Cabinet Shop Lead – Experienced Cabinetmaker Ready for the Next Step
Full-Time | Nashville, TN
We are a growing custom cabinet company looking for an experienced cabinetmaker who is ready to take the next step in their career.
This position is ideal for someone who has solid cabinet shop experience and has become one of the people others rely on to get things done — but may not yet have had the opportunity to lead a shop.
Previous leadership experience is a plus, but it is not required. We are more interested in finding the right person with strong cabinetmaking skills, good judgment, a strong work ethic, and the desire to take greater ownership and responsibility.
Our goal is to find someone who can grow into the person responsible for the day-to-day operation of our shop.
What You'll Do
You will work closely with the owner to take cabinet projects from drawings and materials through production and make sure they are completed correctly and ready for installation.
Responsibilities will include:
- Building high-quality custom cabinetry
- Reading and working from cabinet drawings and plans
- Planning and sequencing work through the shop
- Operating standard cabinet shop machinery and equipment
- Helping determine what needs to be worked on each day
- Coordinating work with other members of the shop team
- Checking completed work for quality and accuracy
- Identifying problems before they become delays
- Keeping projects moving toward their scheduled installation dates
- Helping maintain an organized, clean and efficient shop
- Training and helping develop less-experienced cabinetmakers
- Communicating with the owner about project status, material needs and potential problems
- Taking increasing responsibility for the overall operation of the shop
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Has several years of hands-on cabinet shop experience
- Understands how cabinets are built from start to finish
- Can read drawings and translate them into finished cabinetry
- Is comfortable using common woodworking and cabinet shop equipment
- Takes pride in producing high-quality work
- Works efficiently without sacrificing quality
- Is dependable and takes ownership of their responsibilities
- Notices what needs to be done without always having to be told
- Can solve problems and make good decisions
- Communicates well with coworkers
- Is willing to teach and help others improve
- Wants more responsibility and an opportunity to grow
Experience with CNC equipment, edge banders, cabinet design/production software, finishing, installation, or shop scheduling is a plus.
Leadership Experience Is NOT Required
You do not have to currently be a shop foreman or production manager to be considered.
In fact, we are particularly interested in finding an experienced cabinetmaker who may currently be the #2 person in another shop and is ready for the opportunity to become the #1 person in ours.
If you're the person others come to when they have a question, if you find yourself thinking ahead about what the shop needs to do next, or if you believe you're capable of more responsibility than your current position allows, we would like to talk with you.
What Success Looks Like
Over time, we want this person to become the owner's right-hand person in production.
The owner will remain heavily involved in sales, estimating, design, customer relationships and overall project planning. The Shop Lead will increasingly take ownership of what happens on the shop floor — making sure projects are built correctly, efficiently and on schedule.
This is not simply a position for someone who wants to come to work, build cabinets and go home.
It is an opportunity for someone who wants to help run a cabinet shop and have a meaningful role in growing the company.
Compensation
Competitive ($27 to $32 ) hourly compensation based on cabinetmaking experience, technical ability and overall fit.
Full-time position with the opportunity for increased responsibility and compensation as the role develops.
Interested?
If you have solid cabinet shop experience and believe you're ready for the next step, we'd like to hear from you.
When applying, please tell us briefly about your cabinetmaking experience, the types of cabinetry you've built, the equipment you've worked with, and why you're interested in taking on a larger role in a growing cabinet shop.
Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
