Job Description: 3D Printer Technician
Location: Dicronite Southwest
Position Type: Full-Time (approx. 25-40 hours/week)
Position Summary:
Dicronite Southwest is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented 3D Printer Technician who also
can utilize CAD to design fixtures to support our engineering and production teams. The
primary focus of this role is operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting 3D
printers used to produce custom masking fixtures for industrial dry film lubrication coating
applications. However, the ability to utilize CAD to design fixtures and tooling would be a
plus.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem solving,
machine setup, print tuning, and keeping printers running reliably. CAD experience is
preferred, as the expectation would be to assist in supporting fixture design utilizing CAD
modeling, although we are willing to invest in training the right individual.
Key Responsibilities:
● 3D Printer Operation & Monitoring
- Set up, operate, and monitor 3D printers used to produce custom masking fixtures and production-support components. Prepare print beds, load materials, start print jobs, monitor print quality, and ensure prints are completed successfully.
● Printer Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine printer maintenance, cleaning, calibration, and basic repairs. Troubleshoot print failures, material issues, bed adhesion problems, extrusion issues, printer errors, and other machine-related concerns.
● Print Preparation & Slicing
- Prepare files for printing using slicing software. Adjust print settings such as layer height, infill, supports, temperatures, speeds, material profiles, and print orientation to improve quality, reliability, and production efficiency.
● Fixture Production & Post-Processing
- Produce 3D-printed masking fixtures for complex part geometries. Perform post-processing tasks such as support removal, trimming, cleaning, fitting, sorting, and organizing printed parts for production use.
● Quality Control & Inspection
- Inspect printed fixtures to ensure they meet fit, dimensional, and functional requirements. Identify defects, document issues, and communicate print or fixture problems to engineering and production staff.
● Material & Process Optimization
- Work with different 3D printing materials and assist in improving print settings for strength, flexibility, accuracy, surface finish, and repeatability. Support testing of new materials, printers, and production methods as needed.
● CAD Design Support
- Assist with basic CAD modifications and fixture design when needed. Prior CAD experience is preferred but not required, as training can be provided.
● Production & Process Improvement
- Assist engineering and production staff in improving print reliability, maskingfixture durability, turnaround time, and workflow efficiency.
● Technical Documentation
- Document printer settings, maintenance activities, material usage, print issues, fixture revisions, and production feedback. Help create or update basic work instructions and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Preferred Graduating from a Tech School.
- Strong interest in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, machines, manufacturing, or hands-on technical work.
- Experience operating FDM, SLA, or other 3D printing equipment.
- Familiarity with slicing software and print settings.
- Ability to operate, monitor, and troubleshoot equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions and procedures.
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently or with a team.
- Willingness to learn quality inspection, production workflows, and basic CAD design.
Preferred:
- Mechanical aptitude or experience working with machines, tools, printers, electronics, or production equipment.
- Coursework, certificate, Associate degree, or Bachelor’s degree progress in
- Additive Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, or similar is a plus and preferred.
- Basic understanding of quality control, dimensional inspection, and technical documentation.
