Surgical Technologist Job Description
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic healthcare team. The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting surgical teams before, during, and after surgical procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of surgical practices, patient care, and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.
Duties
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field for surgical procedures by ensuring all instruments and supplies are ready for use.
- Assist surgeons and other medical staff during surgeries by passing instruments and providing necessary support.
- Monitor the patient’s condition before, during, and after surgery to ensure safety and comfort.
- Maintain accurate counts of all surgical instruments and supplies to prevent any items from being left inside the patient.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure proper patient care pre- and post-operation.
- Adhere to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection in surgical settings.
- Document all relevant information related to the surgical procedure in electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic.
- Participate in continuous education and training to stay updated on best practices in surgical technology.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology is essential for effective communication within the surgical team.
- Familiarity with infection control practices to ensure patient safety during surgical procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in an ambulatory surgery center environment.
