Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orthopedic Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of orthopedic patient care, medical procedures, and administrative support within a fast-paced clinical environment. Duties
- Assist orthopedic physicians with patient examinations, including preparing patients and ensuring comfort throughout procedures.
- Take and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary supplies, sterilize equipment, and ensure cleanliness in accordance with safety standards.
- Perform clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, X-ray imaging, medication administration, and wound care as directed by the physician.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), documenting patient information, treatment plans, ICD coding, and follow-up instructions precisely.
- Support patient intake processes by collecting medical histories, updating charts, and addressing patient questions professionally.
- Coordinate with hospital staff for inpatient or outpatient procedures, including Level I and Level II trauma center protocols when applicable.
- Assist with clinic operations by managing appointment scheduling, inventory control of medical supplies, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
Requirements
- Proven experience in orthopedic settings or related fields such as hospital medicine, urgent care, or outpatient clinics.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and ICD coding standards.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy or X-ray technician training are preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and electronic health records management is essential for accurate documentation.
- Prior hospital experience or inpatient experience at Level I or Level II trauma centers enhances candidacy.
- Strong patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse populations.
- Experience with medical-surgical procedures, internal medicine practices, geriatrics, or emergency medicine is advantageous.
- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments such as trauma centers or busy outpatient clinics while maintaining attention to detail.
