Position Summary
As an Employee Benefits & Insurance Specialist, you will develop new business while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients. You will consult with employers, employees, individuals, and families to identify their insurance needs and recommend customized solutions that include group health benefits, life insurance, disability, dental, vision, supplemental insurance, and other ancillary products.
Success in this role requires excellent communication skills, strong sales abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to educate clients while providing exceptional customer experience.
Essential Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing clients.
- Generate new business through referrals, networking, community involvement, seminars, marketing initiatives, and outbound prospecting.
- Present and sell employer-sponsored group health benefits, life insurance, and ancillary insurance products.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional insurance products that meet client needs.
Client Consultation & Service
- Conduct comprehensive benefits consultations for individuals and employer groups.
- Analyze client needs and recommend customized insurance solutions.
- Educate clients and employees on available coverage options and benefits in a clear, easy-to-understand manner.
- Serve as a trusted advisor by providing ongoing support and annual policy reviews.
- Assist clients through the application, enrollment, underwriting, and renewal processes.
Group Benefits Administration
- Maintain regular communication with employer groups to support their evolving benefit needs.
- Coordinate employee enrollment meetings, educational presentations, and benefit workshops.
- Assist employers with benefit administration while ensuring compliance requirements are met.
- Collaborate with clients to develop long-term risk management strategies.
Relationship Management
- Build lasting relationships through exceptional customer service.
- Maintain regular follow-up with prospects and existing clients.
- Represent Hellman Insurance Agency professionally throughout the community.
- Participate in networking events, business organizations, educational seminars, and community outreach activities.
Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate client records using agency CRM systems.
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Stay current on insurance products, carrier updates, industry trends, and compliance requirements.
- Prepare weekly and quarterly activity reports for leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to all agency policies and state and federal regulations.
Team Collaboration
· Collaborate closely with Licensed Client Advocates (LCAs), Employee Benefits team members, Group Sales and Support staff, and other agency team members to provide exceptional client service and ensure seamless client experience.
· Partner with internal team members to support new and existing employer groups, coordinate client needs, and contribute to agency growth.
· Provide cross-functional support during the Annual Enrollment Period and other busy seasons.
· Foster a positive, collaborative work environment by sharing knowledge, supporting teammates, and contributing to the agency's continued success.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of insurance sales, employee benefits, financial services, or related sales experience preferred.
- Experience with group health insurance, life insurance, or ancillary products strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong consultative selling and relationship-building abilities.
- Self-motivated with a proven ability to work independently.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to explain complex insurance concepts in a client-friendly manner.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable networking and participating in community events.
Licenses & Certifications
- Montana Health Insurance License required or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Life Insurance License required or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Maintain all required carrier appointments and continuing education requirements.
- Valid Montana driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Proof of automobile insurance.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
Location & Work Arrangement
· The ideal candidate is located in Missoula or a 3-hour drive from the Missoula area to support in-person client meetings, team collaboration, networking events, and community involvement. However, we recognize the value of flexibility and are open to a hybrid work arrangement for the right candidate based on experience, job responsibilities, and business needs.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel locally to client meetings and networking events.
- Approximately 25–50% local travel.
- Ability to work additional hours during the Annual Enrollment Period (October–December).
