Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Regional Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead nursing operations across our portfolio of 7 skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in upstate New York. This pivotal role involves shaping nursing strategy, ensuring excellence in resident care, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations across every site. Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for nursing services across all 7 regional skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities
- Oversee clinical operations to ensure high standards of resident care are consistently met or exceeded at every site
- Develop and implement policies that promote compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, CMS/Medicare requirements, and NYSDOH state licensing and survey standards
- Lead operational management efforts across the portfolio, including staffing optimization, resource allocation, and financial oversight to ensure sustainable service delivery
- Collaborate with facility Administrators and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate resident care plans and ensure seamless, high-quality care delivery at each location
- Drive quality improvement initiatives by analyzing clinical data (including MDS assessments), monitoring resident outcomes, and implementing best practices in nursing management
- Foster a culture of leadership development by mentoring and holding accountable each facility's Director of Nursing (DON), supporting their ongoing professional growth
- Ensure medical records are maintained accurately in accordance with legal standards while safeguarding resident confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines
- Maintain operational compliance with healthcare laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels to uphold accreditation and survey readiness across all facilities
- Travel regularly across the portfolio's locations (Hornell, Rome, Chittenango, Ilion/Mohawk, Utica, Valatie/Barnwell, and Altamont/Guilderland)
Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered RN license in New York State (required)
- Minimum 5+ years of nursing leadership experience in skilled nursing/long-term care, including at least 2 years in a multi-site or regional oversight role
- Proven nurse management experience with demonstrated success in executive-level leadership roles within long-term care or healthcare organizations
- Deep knowledge of physiology and anatomy to inform clinical decision-making and staff training
- Familiarity with CMS/Medicare regulations, medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare compliance standards including HIPAA
- Strong strategic management skills with the ability to develop long-term plans aligned with organizational goals
- Experience in financial management within healthcare settings to oversee budgets and resource planning effectively
- Excellent communication skills to lead multidisciplinary teams and confidently liaise with regulatory agencies and surveyors
- Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments while maintaining a focus on resident-centered care excellence
- BSN or MSN strongly preferred
- Experience turning around a facility with an SFF (Special Focus Facility) designation or similar compliance challenge is a plus
