Job description:
We are seeking an experienced, highly-motivated dog trainer to join our organization, Cavalletto Canine, LLC, an established mobile dog training business service metro-west Boston for 30+ years.
Ideal candidates are familiar with and passionate about dog behavior and have hands on experience with dog training.
We are hiring for a full-time, weekday position.
General Position Summary:
As a full-time dog trainer you will train, manage, and supervise dogs. You must be committed and show a genuine interest in enhancing communication between dog and self while providing a safe and stimulating space for dogs of all ages, breeds, sizes and temperaments.
The ideal candidate will have an impeccable work ethic and demonstrate an enthusiasm for acquiring new knowledge and skills, a commitment to learning through productive feedback, and a willingness to fully engage with hand-on practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibility: Training and Management of Dogs —
· Adhering to and implementing all safety protocols
· Transporting dogs, and communicating with clients in a professional and responsive manner
· Supervising dogs, maintaining visual observation of dogs at all times, practicing situational awareness, and using proper dog handling techniques.
· Conducting focused obedience training with individual dogs, emphasizing manners, reinforcing desirable behaviors, managing behavioral challenges
· Reinforcing boundaries and etiquette, including greeting without jumping, leash manners, controlled car entry/exit, managing transitions.
· Ensuring vigorous and varied exercise, playing retrieval games, climbing over and through agility equipment, and exploring trails.
· Supervising structured group play, facilitating positive interaction, using methods to ensure safe play and minimize potential conflict and stress
· Ensuring socialization with dogs of different ages, backgrounds and breeds, adapting expectations depending on underlying disposition
Responsibility: Promote Health and Wellness through High Quality Care —
· Observing animal appearance and activity for general physical conditions, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent, and following appropriate protocols
· Providing clean water throughout day
· Grooming dogs with full brush out, shampooing and nail clipping as needed
· Feeding dogs, including special diets as needed, and weighing dogs periodically as requested
· Maintaining records, noting behavioral issues, health concerns, nutrition and feeding, and documenting medications given
· Routinely reporting to administrative manager to update records of dogs, including vet, emergency contact, vaccines, health problems, and diet
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have previous work experience with dogs and familiarity or hands on experience with training techniques.
- Must be at least 21 years old and authorized to work in U.S.
- Must have reliable transportation and be comfortable driving in all weather conditions (we are NOT accessible via public transportation and we DO operate during snowy weather).
- Must have a cell phone
- Must have valid driver's license and excellent driving record
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have references and pass a criminal background check
- Must be open to covering additional shifts per business needs
Certification or prior training related to dog care and/or behavior and/or training preferred
Must be reliable, punctual, and have an impeccable work ethic.
Must be able to:
- Follow instructions and efficiently see tasks to completion
- Communicate effectively with staff and clients
- Work independently and also as a team player
- Seek and accept feedback to constantly improve skills
- Adhere to protocols and processes to ensure safety
- Remain calm and effective in stressful situations
Must be in good physical condition, able to be active and on feet all day.
Must be able to:
- Lift 50 lbs. and have no physical limitations
- Bend, stoop, hike, kneel, run, and lift
- Handle large dogs (lift, help into positions, etc.)
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Drive in all weather conditions
Salary: $28+ per hour depending on experience. Benefits include paid vacation and sick days, QSEHRA health insurance reimbursements, and Simple IRA retirement account with company match.
