Position Description
Position Title: Physical Therapist (Part-Time—up to 25 hours / week)
Department / Division: Special Education
Reports To: Director of Special Education or designated supervisor
Position Summary
A Physical Therapist provides services to students with identified disabilities in
accordance with their Individualized Education Plans. Services could include treatment
programs involving motor development and range of motion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides physical therapy to individuals with disabilities, including development
of individual treatment plans.
2. Evaluates students using appropriate testing materials and techniques.
3. Offers support to ESA classrooms and local districts as appropriate.
4. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with all staff, families, local
districts and community agencies.
5. Completes the appropriate documentation, paperwork and progress reports.
6. Performs home visits as needed, and provides itinerant services to children ages
birth to six.
7. Provides adaptive equipment as needed, which may include handmade items.
8. Performs screening and evaluations.
9. Works with parents / guardians to explain goals and methods of therapy.
10. Attends staff meetings and professional development as appropriate.
11. Performs related work as requested.
Qualification Requirements
1. Professional degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university.
2. State of Michigan Board licensed in Physical Therapy.
3. Related work experience, preferably in an educational and/or pediatric setting.
4. Knowledge of special education rules and regulations, IEPs, IFSPs and child
development.
5. Possess sensitivity to and interest in the needs of individuals with disabilities.
6. Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain effective scheduling.
7. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to
effectively work with students, parents, staff, other agencies and the general
public.
