Job Overview:
A warehouse picker/packer is a fundamental role in the logistics and supply chain industry, responsible for ensuring that customer orders are fulfilled accurately and shipped on time. It is a physically active role that requires a blend of speed, attention to detail, and spatial awareness.
Core Responsibilities:
The role is generally split into two primary functions, though in many warehouses, one person performs both:
1. Picking
- Locating Items: Using a digital scanner or a paper "pick ticket" to find specific products within the warehouse.
- Retrieving Stock: Collecting the correct quantity of items from shelves, bins, or pallets.
- Transporting: Moving items to the packing station using carts, pallet jacks, or sometimes forklifts (if certified).
2. Packing
- Quality Control: Checking items for damage and verifying that the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) matches the order.
- Packaging: Selecting the appropriate box size and using protective materials (bubble wrap, air pillows) to prevent shipping damage.
- Labeling: Sealing boxes and applying shipping labels, packing slips, and "fragile" stickers where necessary.
