Overview:
The Auburn University Department of Geosciences is seeking a creative, energetic, and motivated student to join our team as a Marketing & Communications Student Assistant. This position offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, social media, event management, journalism, or related fields to gain real-world experience while building a professional portfolio.
As part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary department in the brand new STEM+Ag Complex, you will help showcase student and faculty success, research discoveries, outreach programs, academic opportunities, and events that make Auburn Geosciences a leader in education, research, and community engagement.
Responsibilities:
The Marketing & Communications Student Assistant will support:
Content Creation

Create graphics, videos, reels, and other digital content for social media platforms

Capture photos and video at department events and activities

Develop engaging stories highlighting student achievements, faculty research, alumni successes, and department initiatives

Assist in maintaining a consistent departmental brand and visual identity
Marketing & Communications

Design flyers, posters, digital signage, and promotional materials

Draft social media captions, website updates, news stories, and email communications

Help develop and execute marketing campaigns for academic programs, events, and student recruitment initiatives

Monitor social media trends and suggest new content ideas
Events & Outreach

Assist with planning, coordinating, and promoting department events

Generate innovative ideas for programs that increase student engagement and visibility

Support outreach activities, recruiting events, open houses, and community engagement efforts

Help coordinate logistics, marketing materials, and promotional activities before and during events
Team Support

Respond to marketing and communication requests from faculty and staff

Assist with special projects and outreach initiatives as assigned

Contribute creative ideas to strengthen departmental visibility and engagement
Qualifications:
Enrolled student at Auburn University

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

Experience with social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and others.

Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
