Position Summary
The Project Director is a senior-level leader responsible for overseeing the successful planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale design-build (DB) transit infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems. This role requires deep expertise in project controls, safety compliance, FTA/OSHA regulations, and experience working with MARTA operations. The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 20 years of engineering experience with a PE license (GA) or 10 years of BRT project management experience.
Key Responsibilities
Provide executive oversight and leadership for all phases of complex DB transit projects
Ensure compliance with FTA, OSHA, and MARTA operational standards and requirements
Lead cross-functional teams including engineering, safety, construction, and project controls personnel
Manage stakeholder engagement, including coordination with public agencies, contractors, consultants, and internal MARTA teams
Oversee implementation of project controls, risk management protocols, and quality assurance plans
Ensure delivery of project milestones within scope, budget, and timeline
Champion paperless document management systems for efficient project tracking and reporting
Monitor construction site operations to ensure safety standards are strictly followed
Report project performance to senior leadership and recommend adjustments as needed
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Georgia strongly preferred
PMP certification is a plus
OSHA safety certification and/or FTA safety training preferred
Experience
Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in engineering or construction leadership with active PE (GA), OR 10 years of direct BRT project experience
Extensive experience with design-build project delivery methods
Deep knowledge of project controls systems and tools
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a high-stakes infrastructure environment
Familiarity with MARTA operations and standards is highly desirable
Experience implementing and managing digital/paperless document management systems
