Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Billing Specialist to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in medical billing and coding, with expertise in managing billing processes, insurance claims, and patient accounts. As a Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing, maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, and supporting the financial health of the organization through effective revenue cycle management. Pay is based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit insurance claims accurately and timely
- Monitor and resolve accounts in the Unbillable Bucket, researching errors and correcting issues to release claims for billing
- Answer incoming phone calls and provide billing support to patients, attorneys, employers, and insurance carriers
- Review and process financial assistance applications according to policy guidelines
- Complete and maintain Matrix billing tasks, reports, and reconciliations
- Post payments, contractual adjustments, and write-offs accurately
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims to ensure maximum reimbursement
- Communicate with internal departments to resolve billing, coding, and eligibility issues
- Maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready account notes
- Meet daily productivity, quality, and compliance metrics
Skills
- Experience handling bankruptcy and financial assistance accounts
- Strong customer service and phone etiquette skills
- Ability to manage high-volume workloads and prioritize effectively
- Knowledge of payer rules, appeals, and denial resolution
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of healthcare or medical billing experience
- Knowledge of insurance billing, Workers’ Compensation, and self-pay collections
- Familiarity with CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding concepts
- Experience using billing systems and workflows (XiFin or similar preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
