Summary/Objective:
The primary objective of this role is to achieve Basis of Design (BOD) specifications for Buckley’s represented applied products by supporting consulting engineering clients through proper selection, application, design, and approval. This is accomplished through proactive technical engagement and relationship building with key stakeholders, including owners and their representatives, end users, and consulting mechanical engineers, early in the project lifecycle.
The position focuses on driving Basis of Design across three core market segments: mechanical systems, air distribution, and controls. By providing expert application guidance, design assistance, and technical validation, the role ensures Buckley’s products are positioned as the preferred solutions before projects move into documentation and bidding.
A secondary objective is to serve as a critical communication link between the engineering, sales, and estimating teams. This includes supporting projects in process, clarifying engineer acceptance criteria versus preferences, and contributing to pricing and go-to-market strategies for new and emerging products to improve conversion from specification to sale.
Engineering Functions:
- Support the local engineering community and in a timely fashion respond to their product application, selection and/or budget requests
- Work with represented manufacturers to coordinate periodic visits to help educate the engineering community on changes in products/technology/code and new product offerings
- Identify job opportunities through multiple channels and actively pursue them for any/all represented products using engineering calls, manufacturer plant tours, product mock-ups, budget analysis, product selection and/or job site visits
- The sales engineer is responsible for coordinating the following:
o Scheduling Lunch and Learns
o Execution and planning of the engineering blitz calendar
o A weekly call schedule with clients and detailed call reports
- Sales Engineer is expected to be on the road meeting with clients 3 days a week
- Actively address field issues on existing projects and provide support to the engineer/customer/salesperson/end user
Sales Functions
- Assist the sales/estimating department by targeting the jobs that have been laid out around our products and that we have put forth considerable marketing efforts
- Work with the team to provide guidance on these “Buckley Jobs” as it relates to pricing, options, application, and discounting
- Maintain detailed reports of all projects to keep the sales and estimating team up to speed on current projects
- Maintain an accurate and updated records database of submittals, product sales bulletins and literature required by the sales team
Required Education and Experience:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree, required
- Relevant design experience in HVAC, Electrical, or Controls
- Understanding of heating and refrigeration systems, function and application
- 3 plus years of experience in a similar role
- Local travel is 2-3 days a week, but there may also be some travel (flight) for training
