Oracle Profitability is a growing accounting firm providing outsourced bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, and controller services to businesses with annual revenues generally ranging from $500,000 to $10 million.
We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Staff Accountant & Payroll Specialist who can take ownership of recurring client work and produce accurate, review-ready financial records. This is a hands-on accounting position for someone who enjoys working with multiple clients, investigating discrepancies, meeting deadlines, and completing work correctly without needing constant follow-up.
Position Details
- Part-time, hourly, nonexempt employee
- Approximately 20–25 hours per week, with the potential for growth
- Fully remote
- Work hours must be flexible between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Arizona time to accommodate payroll deadlines, client needs, training, meetings, and month-end responsibilities
- Starting pay: $22.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience

Primary ResponsibilitiesBookkeeping and Accounting
- Maintain accurate books for multiple clients using QuickBooks Online.
- Record and properly categorize bank, credit card, loan, payroll, and other financial transactions.
- Complete monthly bank, credit card, loan, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Review accounts for unusual balances, duplicate transactions, misclassifications, and other discrepancies.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, payroll entries, and correcting entries.
- Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Assist with monthly and year-end close.
- Review Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports for accuracy and reasonableness.
- Prepare organized, review-ready workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Assist with bookkeeping cleanups and special accounting projects.
- Communicate missing information, discrepancies, and potential problems promptly.
Payroll
- Process payroll accurately and on schedule for multiple clients.
- Review employee hours, pay rates, reimbursements, deductions, benefits, garnishments, and paid time off.
- Verify payroll funding and obtain necessary client approvals.
- Record payroll activity accurately in QuickBooks Online.
- Reconcile payroll reports, payroll liabilities, and general ledger accounts.
- Assist with employee onboarding, terminations, and payroll-related documentation.
- Support quarterly and year-end payroll processes, including W-2 and 1099 preparation.
- Identify payroll discrepancies before payroll is submitted.
Client and Team Support
- Manage recurring assignments and deadlines across multiple clients.
- Keep client records, workpapers, and internal notes organized and current.
- Follow established procedures while using sound accounting judgment.
- Ask thoughtful questions when information is incomplete or inconsistent.
- Provide timely status updates and communicate before a deadline is at risk.
- Accept feedback, correct errors, and take responsibility for the final quality of assigned work.
- Assist other team members during payroll periods, month-end close, and other deadline-driven projects.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of recent bookkeeping, staff accounting, or full-cycle accounting experience.
- Hands-on experience processing payroll.
- Strong QuickBooks Online experience.
- Demonstrated experience completing bank and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Solid understanding of debits, credits, accrual accounting, and financial statements.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and investigate their cause rather than simply recording transactions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage several clients and competing deadlines.
- Consistent attendance, responsiveness, and follow-through.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Reliable internet access and a private, professional remote workspace.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Experience working for an accounting, bookkeeping, or outsourced financial-services firm.
- Experience with multiple payroll platforms.
- Experience with sales tax, contractor accounting, job costing, or multi-entity businesses.
- Experience reviewing another bookkeeper’s work.
- Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, filtering, and pivot tables.
