Booker T. Washington Learning Center is a small, progressive preschool in East Harlem serving children ages 2–5, including 3-K and Pre-K for All (UPK). For nearly 40 years, we have provided a nurturing, child-centered, screen-free learning environment where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to thrive. Our play-based curriculum integrates daily STEAM experiences, literacy, the arts, healthy meals, outdoor exploration, and enrichment clubs that spark curiosity and creativity. Duties
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with preschool standards and curriculum frameworks.
- Foster a positive classroom atmosphere through effective behavior management and classroom management techniques
- Observe and record children's progress and needs.
- PLan and prepare fun and engaging enrichment activities such as music, yoga, cooking, etc.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to share insights on child development, progress, and classroom activities
- Supervise and mentor assistant teachers and classroom staff to ensure high-quality childcare and educational delivery
- Maintain compliance with mandated reporting laws related to child welfare and safety protocols
- Incorporate literacy education, math activities, physical education, and early intervention strategies into daily lessons to support holistic development
- Ensure the safety of all children by maintaining first aid and CPR certifications, adhering to health guidelines, and implementing child welfare best practices
- Meet all general professional standards with regard to conduct and teaching.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- New York State Early Childhood Certification (Birth–Grade 2) preferred or actively pursuing certification.
- Experience teaching children ages 2–5.
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Experience with Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Clearance through Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Department of Education required.
Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
