Southampton Montessori is seeking an experienced, organized, and compassionate Assistant Director to join our leadership team. As a well-established Montessori school, we have built a strong reputation for providing an authentic Montessori education in a warm, home-like environment where children, families, and educators feel welcomed, respected, and supported.
Working closely with the Head of School, the Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the school while fostering the nurturing atmosphere that makes our community special. We are looking for someone who combines exceptional organizational and administrative skills with a genuine passion for early childhood education and relationship-building.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Administrative Leadership
- Partner with the Head of School to oversee daily school operations, ensuring a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff.
- Maintain compliance with Texas childcare licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and other applicable requirements.
- Manage staff files, licensing documentation, inspection records, maintenance logs, and other administrative records with exceptional attention to detail.
- Oversee purchasing and inventory of classroom materials, office supplies, food, and other school resources while maintaining cost-effective practices.
- Assist with scheduling, enrollment support, and other administrative functions that contribute to the school's overall success.
Family & Community Engagement
- Serve as a welcoming point of contact for prospective and current families, building positive relationships through professional and compassionate communication.
- Support parent communication by providing timely updates, answering questions, and helping families feel connected to the school community.
- Coordinate and help lead school events, celebrations, and family engagement activities that strengthen our close-knit community.
Staff Support & Montessori Leadership
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and positive workplace culture grounded in Montessori philosophy and mutual support.
- Support and mentor teaching staff through regular communication, encouragement, and problem-solving.
- Conduct classroom observations to help ensure prepared, peaceful, and engaging Montessori learning environments.
- Collaborate with the Head of School to uphold the school's commitment to authentic Montessori practices and educational excellence.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate's or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, educational leadership, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of administrative or leadership experience in a high-capacity, licensed childcare center, preschool, or Montessori school required.
- Strong understanding of, or sincere appreciation for, Montessori philosophy and child-centered education.
Professional Skills
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with families, staff, and regulatory agencies.
- Calm, proactive, and solutions-oriented approach to daily challenges.
- Proficiency with Procare, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other common administrative software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Montessori teaching or administrative credential (AMS, AMI, or MACTE) preferred.
- Texas Director's Credential, or the ability to obtain one, is highly desirable.
