Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Lead and own the in-house design of SCADA monitoring and control systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Work in AutoCAD, Visio, and other design tools, as required, to develop comprehensive designs for large-scale renewable energy power plant SCADA systems.
Define, document, and continuously improve SCADA design standards and best practices, reinforcing design quality and consistency across the team.
Own and drive review of project scope of work documents; lead cross-functional requirements gathering sessions and translate complex requirements into comprehensive, scalable system designs.
Develop, review, and approve detailed design documentation including communications diagrams, networking port maps, powering diagrams, and equipment bill of materials for SCADA communication racks and field network enclosures while ensuring adherence to company standards.
Perform senior-level review of SCADA drawing sets and generate redlines at standard revision intervals.
Develop, maintain, and reinforce drawing review quality standards across the design team.
Serve as the primary technical escalation point for complex SCADA equipment configurations, design challenges, and cross-functional technical issues.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical review, knowledge sharing, and reinforcement of design standards while fostering a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.
Collaborate with SOLV OT (Operational Technology) team(s) at a lead level to define and validate server and networking equipment hardware requirements, proactively identifying risks and recommending solutions.
Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce design and commissioning effort, improve system consistency across projects, and support long-term operational reliability.
Generate and maintain comprehensive project documentation in Microsoft Visio and Autodesk AutoCAD including block diagrams, elevations, fiber routing & splicing, and equipment wiring diagrams.
Develop training materials in accordance with defined company standards.
Provide regular project status updates and risk assessments; proactively identify and mitigate technical and schedule risks to ensure successful project delivery.
Promote and adhere to a culture of NERC compliance and governance with respect to design standards, documentation, reporting, knowledge transfer, and training.
Operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces to recommend technical approaches and guide cross-functional solution development.
Promote a collaborative, team-first culture by approaching challenges with a solution-oriented mindset that emphasizes enablement over barriers.
Lead special projects to research SCADA equipment and emerging technologies in support of standards updates and/or customer requests; translate findings into actionable design recommendations.
Serve as the senior SCADA Design lead and primary technical representative for assigned projects in all customer-facing meetings and technical reviews.
Interface with 3rd party integrators throughout SCADA rack and FNE assembly, providing technical guidance on manufacturability to ensure intended SCADA functionality is maintained.
Lead and present the system design review portion of customer-witnessed SCADA headend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and act as the senior design SME during these engagements.
Coordinate with customers, utility representatives, and field technicians for on-site commissioning and installation support; serve as the primary point of escalation for complex field issues related to the system design.
Support operations and asset management teams during project handoff, ensuring seamless transition, operational readiness, and long-term system reliability.

SCADA and network designs meet established quality and performance standards.
SCADA configuration and testing activities comply with utility, NERC, and SOLV standards.
Adherence to Company policies and procedures.
Assigned SCADA design, programming, and commissioning tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.

Professional technical skills and industry knowledge continue to develop over time.
Staff development and training are supported through direct mentorship of junior engineers.
Positive feedback is received from project teams, field personnel, and stakeholders.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering is preferred.
6-8 years of engineering experience or equivalent (experience working within renewable energy including; industrial or utility scale PV solar, BESS or Wind desired). Direct experience in SCADA engineering.
Direct experience drafting engineering drawing sets for SCADA, Networking, electrical, and/or substation designs.
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD
Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and architectures.
Advanced knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of SCADA networks using Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232 / RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
Advanced knowledge of industrial automation protocols including but not limited to; Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
Advanced knowledge reading and developing diagrams and schematics including but not limited to, power system, networking and control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts.
Advanced knowledge of power plant operating procedures and control system interaction with governing bodies such as: Regional Compliance Entities, Independent System Operators, Transmission Operators, and Generator Operators.
Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel.
Proficiency with various project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
Excellent communication skills.
