Overview:
We are seeking a Traffic Controller to join our Asphalt team. The ideal candidate is responsible for managing and directing traffic flow to ensure safety and efficiency on roads and highways. S/He handles various aspects of traffic control, including coordinating traffic around disruptions like roadworks, accidents, or planned maintenance. Additionally, the Traffic Controller may direct pedestrians to ensure their safety in areas with altered traffic conditions.
Responsibilities:
· Use hand signals, flags and other methods to guide vehicles and pedestrians safely
· Deploy and organize cones, signs, barricades and other devices to manage traffic flow
· Observe traffic conditions and adjust control measures as needed to maintain smooth and safe traffic patterns
· Manage flow of vehicles, ensuring smooth and safe movement
· Provide clear instructions to drivers, coordinate with other personnel and report incidents or hazards
· Act courteously and professionalism when interacting with the public
· Attend training as required
· Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations
· Work with asphalt crew on various other assignments
Required Skills/Knowledge:
· High school diploma or equivalent qualification
· One year’s experience required; traffic control certification is a plus
· Proven experience in heavy equipment operation including loader, grader and backhoe
· Familiarity with construction site protocols and safety regulations
· Valid driver’s license preferred
· Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment
· Ability to identify and resolve traffic issues effectively
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices
· Must pass a physical examination and drug screen
- Ability to work some weekends as needed
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift 50 pounds
· Ability to work safely in a noisy area
· Ability to stand for extended periods
· Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain, sleet, etc.
· Ability to wear proper PPE
