My name is Nicholas Miller. First, a little bit about myself. I have spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and drive a motorized wheelchair. I am a Social Work graduate of the University of Illinois and am currently living at home with my mother. I am seeking PA assistance for help with activities of daily living. This job pays $17.25 an hour, no special skills are required, training will be provided, and there are several possible shifts to be determined including a morning and evening shift 7 days a week. In my spare time I am a big baseball fan and a fan of the Chicago Cubs. I also am a big Quad City Sports Fan, especially when it comes to Quad City Hockey! I also like to watch movies and documentaries.
PA Duties (which would vary depending on the shift)
Fixing and serving meals, cleaning up after meals
Transferring into or out of bed
All bathing, showers- cannot reach sink for hand washing
Bathrooming-transferring to use toilet
Applying Condom catheter and leg bag on days those are needed
Emptying leg bag during the day
Removing condom catheter and washing leg bag
Dressing and undressing-shoes and braces as well
Grooming assistance (shaving, face creams, scalp solution)
Setting-up toothbrush
Getting drinks or snacks from containers and refrigerator, refilling refrigerator
Putting tray on chair and removing it
Helping organize papers, mail, books-putting away papers, assistance with printing, copying, scanning
Putting numbers in phone
Stretching legs-(long-sitting @ 45 minutes) each day
Laundry-washing, drying, folding, putting away-
It takes 2 hours approximately to wash and dry a load and another 40 minutes to fold and put it all away. Laundry needs to be done about 3 times per week, for a total of 6 hours.
Changing bedding
Assistance getting mail and packages
Assistance with computer, printer, scanner- loading paper, ink,
microphone, charger, etc.
Charging wheelchair, phone, iPad,
Preparing tape recorders or iPad for any continuing ed classes
Assistance changing batteries in mouse, remotes,
Cleaning room –floor, sink, garbage.
Learning bus routes to be able to get to church, hair cut
Purchase necessities like detergent, depends, etc.
Occasionally need assistance for job fairs or volunteer activity such as taking my coat off, getting lunch, etc.
