Tech Lead — Garage Door Service, Sales & Team Coach

This is NOT an entry-level role, and it is more than a tech job.
We are looking for an experienced garage door technician who can run their own service calls at a high level AND lead a small team. You will supervise up to five service techs, coach them to sell better, mentor them through the hard days, and still keep your own boots on the ground doing repairs, service, and sales.
If you are not already closing jobs in the home, performing the work yourself, and ready to make a crew better, this is not the role for you.
What This Role Really Is
A player-coach. Part top-performing technician, part team leader. You will carry your own route and your own number, while also being the person your techs turn to for help, training, and a straight answer.
On any given week you will:
- Run your own service calls — diagnose, present options, close on the spot, and complete the work yourself
- Ride along with techs and coach them on their in-home ethical sales process and close rate
- Be the counselor in the trenches — handle frustrations, defuse problems, and keep the crew steady and motivated
- Hold the team accountable to their numbers, their quality, and their 5-star reviews
- Step in on tough or escalated jobs and make them right
Coach & Counselor
This is the part that sets the Tech Lead apart. You will be responsible for making up to five service techs better than they were when they joined you.
Coach their sales
- Teach techs how to build trust fast, explain problems and pricing clearly, and confidently ask for the sale
- Review close rates and average ticket with each tech and build a plan to improve them
- Ride-along, role-play objections, and give honest, specific feedback after calls and make sure high ethical standards are upheld
- Model the right way to maximize every opportunity without being pushy
Counsel & support
- Be the person techs come to when a job, a customer, or a bad day gets the better of them
- Listen first, then help them solve it — keep good techs from burning out or walking away
- Set clear expectations and have the hard conversations early and respectfully
- Build a crew that wants to show up and wants to get better
Do the Work Yourself
You lead from the field, not a desk. You will still carry your own calls and be expected to perform at a high level.
- Diagnose and repair springs, motors, rollers, cables, and full systems
- Install openers, keypads, and wiring
- Sell ethically and close repairs and upgrades face-to-face in the home
- Deliver a 5-star experience that earns repeat and referral business

What We'll Ask You
Be ready to talk about:
- Your close rate and average ticket size
- Your sales process in the home and how you handle objections
- A time you helped another tech get better
- How you handle a tech who is struggling or frustrated
- Your customer reviews and 5-star feedback
What We Require
- Minimum 2 years in garage door sales and service
- Currently or recently employed by a reputable garage door company
- Demonstrated ability to coach, train, or lead other technicians
- Valid driver's license (3+ year clean driving record)
- Ability to lift 75 lbs., bend, climb, kneel, and work in varying temperatures
- Willingness to undergo a criminal background check and drug test
- Basic comfort with navigation apps, Google tools, tablets, and software
- Reading and basic math skills for measurements and payments
