This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $50,000–$70,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Summary
We are seeking a passionate School Based Director to join our team at Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii.
The School-Based Director plays a key leadership role in advancing Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii’s mentoring initiatives within schools and site-based settings across Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. This position is responsible for overseeing the School-Based and Site-Based mentoring programs and directly supervising the School-Based program team on each island.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in program design and evaluation, curriculum development, and both strategic and organizational planning. A strong understanding of Hawaii’s public education system, post-secondary pathways and workforce development landscape is essential. This role ensures that all mentoring programs are delivered with consistency and measurable impact in alignment with agency goals and national standards.
Additionally, the successful candidate will have a youth development mindset, an understanding of adolescent needs, and experience guiding programs that support college access, life skills, and career readiness for older youth.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and leadership to School-Based program staff across multiple islands.
- Oversee the implementation and growth of school and site-based mentoring programs, ensuring consistency, quality, and fidelity to the BBBS mission, standards and best practices.
- Lead program planning efforts to ensure services are youth-centered and tailored to the needs of various age groups and demographics.
- Develop and refine program design, structure, and curriculum to enhance youth outcomes and mentor engagement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with public schools, Department of Education partners, and community stakeholders to expand program access and success.
- Monitor and evaluate program performance, including data collection, analysis, and continuous improvement planning.
- Support team members in setting and achieving performance goals aligned with organizational benchmarks.
- Ensure high-quality service delivery and adherence to national BBBS standards.
- Assist with grant reporting, proposal development, and partner engagement as needed.
- Represent BBBS Hawaii in relevant school, community, and education-based coalitions and events.
- Lead the School-Based program staff to deliver services and achieve established outcome goals in key performance areas.
- Review assessments and match recommendations; approve eligible participants.
- Conduct Quality Assurance reviews to support consistent service delivery.
- Collaborate with leadership to expand program capacity and increase the number of youth served, in line with long-term strategic and annual business plans.
- Manage the School-Based program budget, ensuring responsible and strategic use of resources.
- Approve staff schedules, mileage, and purchase orders.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in youth development, education, or non-profit leadership.
- Proven experience supervising teams and managing multi-site programs.
- Strong background in curriculum development, program design, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of Hawaii’s public school system and DOE processes.
- Familiarity with college access, workforce development, and the local post-secondary education landscape.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and meet Hawai‘i's minimum automobile insurance requirements.
- Ability and willingness to travel inter-island as needed.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift 10 lbs.
- Primary work will be performed in an office setting; must be able to operate standard office equipment (computer, phone, photocopier, postage meter, etc.).
- Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Must be able to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
