CONFIDENTIAL SEARCH – INDUSTRIAL PROJECT MANAGER
Location: Alabama or Tennessee
Candidates must currently reside in Alabama or Tennessee OR be willing to relocate.
Travel required based on project needs.
About the Opportunity
Summit Search Partners is conducting a confidential search for an experienced, hands-on Industrial Project Manager for an established industrial maintenance and field services company.
This is not a desk-only Project Manager position.
We are looking for someone who has actually spent time in the field, understands industrial maintenance and construction, knows how to lead crews, and understands what it takes to bring a project in safely, on schedule, and profitably.
The right candidate can manage schedules, manpower, budgets, customers, change orders, equipment, and subcontractors—but isn't afraid to put on PPE, walk into the plant, troubleshoot a problem, and get their hands dirty alongside the crew when necessary.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Manage industrial projects from planning through completion and closeout
- Develop project schedules, manpower plans, equipment needs, and execution strategies
- Manage project budgets, labor hours, productivity, costs, and profitability
- Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, vendors, equipment, and materials
- Maintain a strong presence in the field and understand what is actually happening on the job
- Hold supervisors, foremen, and crews accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and performance
- Identify problems early and drive solutions
- Manage scope changes and ensure additional work is properly documented
- Work directly with customers regarding schedules, project status, challenges, and changes
- Participate in job walks, estimating, scope development, and project planning
- Recognize additional work and future opportunities with customers
- Ensure projects are properly documented and professionally executed
- Step into the field and help the team when that's what it takes to get the project across the finish line
We're Looking for Someone With Experience In:
- Industrial maintenance
- Mining & aggregates
- Cement & lime
- Power generation
- Manufacturing
- Recycling
- Refineries/process facilities
- Material handling systems
- Heavy industrial construction
Strong working knowledge of equipment such as conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, structural steel, piping, chutes, feeders, motors, and related mechanical systems is highly preferred.
Ideal Background
We're especially interested in candidates who have progressed through the field and into leadership.
Experience as a Project Manager, Superintendent, General Foreman, Foreman, Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or similar hands-on field leadership role is highly desirable.
You should understand:
- Industrial mechanical systems
- Field troubleshooting
- Manpower planning
- Labor productivity
- Project scheduling
- Drawings, prints, and scopes of work
- Project budgets and job costing
- Change orders
- Equipment utilization
- Customer management
- Safety and field accountability
The Person We're Looking For
We're looking for a builder, problem solver, and leader—not simply an administrator.
You should be comfortable meeting with a plant manager or customer, managing project financials, directing a superintendent or foreman, and then walking into the field to understand why something isn't working.
When something goes wrong, we're looking for the person whose first thought is:
“What do we need to do to fix it?”
Not:
“That's not my job.”
There will be days when project management means working from a laptop, managing schedules, costs, and customer expectations.
There will also be days when it means putting on a hard hat, getting dirty, and helping your team solve a problem.
You need to be comfortable doing both.
Location Requirement
Candidates must:
Currently reside in Alabama or Tennessee OR be willing to relocate to Alabama or Tennessee.
Travel and extended hours may be required depending on project schedules, outages, shutdowns, and customer needs.
