Waterjet / Laser Operator
Mecca Talent is seeking a skilled Waterjet / Laser Operator to join a growing precision manufacturing operation.
This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys working with CNC equipment, reading blueprints, solving production problems, and producing high-quality parts. You'll be responsible for setting up and operating waterjet and/or laser cutting equipment while maintaining quality, safety, and production standards.
What You'll Do
- Set up and operate waterjet and/or laser cutting equipment to produce parts according to specifications.
- Determine the proper sequence of operations by reviewing routers, blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
- Load and run the appropriate CNC programs for parts being produced.
- Prepare equipment for production by properly positioning and securing material using clamps, fixtures, or jigs.
- Set and adjust machine controls to maintain proper cutting conditions and part quality.
- Monitor equipment throughout the production process and make adjustments as necessary.
- Troubleshoot production issues and adjust machine settings or processes to maintain specifications.
- Escalate equipment or production concerns to the appropriate supervisor when additional support is required.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations and established maintenance schedules.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions and identify when repairs or additional maintenance are required.
- Perform in-process quality checks to ensure finished parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.
- Accurately complete production, quality, and equipment documentation.
- Communicate machine conditions, production issues, and ongoing needs between shifts and work teams.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Perform additional manufacturing duties as assigned.
What We're Looking ForEducation & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
- Previous experience operating waterjet, laser, CNC, or similar automated manufacturing equipment is preferred.
- Basic reading and math skills required.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, routers, work orders, and manufacturing specifications.
- Experience setting up and operating CNC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
- Understanding of basic quality control and inspection procedures.
- Familiarity with precision measuring and inspection tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to make machine adjustments based on production and quality requirements.
- Understanding of manufacturing safety practices and OSHA standards.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented production environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive manufacturing tasks.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
