Lead Interior Designer
JD Interiors is seeking a talented, experienced, and highly organized Lead Interior Designer to join our growing residential interior design studio based in Arroyo Grande, California.
The ideal candidate is confident leading residential projects from initial concept through final documentation, comfortable managing multiple projects at once, and able to balance creative design work with clear communication, organization, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Lead residential interior design and renovation projects from concept development through final documentation
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the design process
- Lead virtual and in-person client meetings, presentations, and project updates
- Develop cohesive design concepts, mood boards, material palettes, and client presentations
- Create and oversee space plans, floor plans, furniture layouts, elevations, cabinetry concepts, and other project drawings
- Produce and review design documentation, specifications, procurement guides, finish schedules, and presentation materials
- Source and specify furniture, lighting, plumbing fixtures, materials, finishes, hardware, and décor
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, fabricators, consultants, and other project partners
- Attend site visits, complete field measurements, and document existing conditions as needed
- Review project selections and documentation for accuracy, feasibility, and design consistency
- Manage project timelines, priorities, deliverables, and client approvals
- Oversee material and finish samples and help maintain the studio’s sample library
- Assist with 3D modeling and photorealistic renderings when applicable
- Help establish and improve internal studio systems, standards, and project workflows
- Support and guide junior designers or design assistants as the team grows
- Work closely with the principal designer on creative direction, project strategy, and studio growth
Qualifications
- Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field
- Professional experience in residential interior design, renovation, or new-construction projects
- Strong design-development, space-planning, and visual presentation skills
- Ability to independently lead projects and confidently communicate with clients
- Strong understanding of floor plans, elevations, measurements, cabinetry, materials, and construction documentation
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
- Professional written and verbal communication
- Ability to manage multiple active projects and shifting priorities
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable presentation software
- Experience with SketchUp or other 3D modeling and rendering software is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with furniture, lighting, materials, finishes, fixtures, and residential product sourcing
- Ability to attend client meetings and site visits throughout San Luis Obispo County
- Reliable transportation
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with the principal designer and a growing team
Pay: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour
