This position works exclusively with our Alpine Ski Team, who are members of Beech Mountain Academy. Practices are held on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Beech Mountain Academy is an inclusive team of young athletes (ages 5-18) dedicated to ski racing, free skiing, and snowboarding. We have a passion for winter sports. Through programs that instill values such as goal setting, discipline, sportsmanship, work ethic, determination, commitment, and fun, our athletes are prepared to compete in local, regional, and national events. Beech Mountain Academy is affiliated with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), the Southern Alpine Racing Association (SARA), and the High Country Junior Race Series (HCJRS). We welcome all athletes with the desire to learn and grow. All athletes must be at phase 2 or higher to apply for the team.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure a positive, memorable experience for athletes and staff by teaching snow sports in a safe and fun learning environment
- Create quality experiences for our athletes and staff by showing empathy and care
- Show interest in snow sports education by attending mandatory and optional training clinics and workshops both inside and outside the resort
- Maintain the highest level of professionalism by adhering to uniform requirements and grooming policies, and demonstrating loyalty to our athletes and company
Duties
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs tailored to skiers’ skill levels and goals
- Lead on-slope coaching sessions focused on technique, safety, and performance enhancement
- Monitor and evaluate athlete progress, providing constructive feedback to encourage improvement
- Ensure all participants adhere to safety protocols and proper equipment usage at all times
- Foster a positive team environment that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and motivation
- Organize and oversee ski drills, competitions, and skill-building activities
- Collaborate with other coaches and staff to plan seasonal training schedules and special events
Requirements/Qualifications
- Experienced skier with an understanding of skiing techniques, skills, competitions (including but not limited to Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Ski Cross), and course setup
- Strong background in teaching physical education or sports instruction with excellent behavior management skills
- Experience working with children or students in educational or recreational settings
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse age groups and skill levels while maintaining a lively, motivational tone
- Ability to work well with peers and athletes, with a passion for personal growth in snow sports, and driven to see athletes grow and excel in their chosen discipline
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Reliable transportation required with the ability to navigate snowy or winter conditions
