Watermark Country Club is an 18-hole private golf course and one of ten golf properties in the RedWater collection. We are located in the Cascade area of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
This is an entry-level position for the right candidate with a sound mechanical background, working within a golf course operation to expand their practical knowledge and experience and progress to an Equipment Manager in the future. Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent and Equipment Manager, the Assistant Equipment Manager assists and/or works independently, repairing and maintaining various gasoline- and diesel-powered golf course maintenance equipment. The Assistant Equipment Manager also assists in maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building, contributing to a preventive maintenance program, and places safety procedures as a top priority. This is a hybrid position as the assistant equipment manager will help out on the course when the labor demand is called for.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of golf course maintenance equipment, on a regular basis
- Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work
- Sets up and modifies equipment fleet as needed
- Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment
- Supports on course operations as needed
Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate would possess the following skills and characteristics:
- Experience in gasoline and diesel engine repair; knowledge in the workings of hydraulic pump systems, and basic electrical
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- The ability to work and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
- A high degree of attention to detail
- Knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment
- Must have a positive attitude at all times
- Must adopt a “willing to do whatever it takes” mentality to assist in the overall success and operation of the grounds department
Physical Requirements:
The physical parameters of the position may be as follows:
- Must be able to work in a bent over or stooped position regularly
- Must have the ability to perform duties in tight and restrictive areas around and in machinery
- Must have the ability to be able to lift and control objects of 80 pounds or higher rarely; 40 lbs or higher occasionally; and 20 lbs or lower consistently
