Industrial Maintenance Technicians to join their team!
Job Summary:
Position Summary
The Industrial Maintenance Technician ensures maximum operational reliability, safety, and efficiency of high-volume manufacturing equipment and plant infrastructure. This role focuses on:
- Production Reliability: Minimizing manufacturing downtime through rapid troubleshooting and repair of complex automated machinery.
- Proactive Maintenance: Executing rigorous preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) programs on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Daily Coordination: Balancing immediate, reactive emergency repairs with scheduled equipment upkeep to support uninterrupted production targets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Emergency & Reactive Repair: Respond quickly to assembly line breakdowns to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic failures under time-sensitive constraints.
- Automation & Robotics: Service, program, and troubleshoot multi-axis robotic systems (e.g., welding, painting, material handling) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Technical Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex blueprints, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and pneumatic flow charts to pinpoint root causes of system issues.
- Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Perform scheduled inspections, alignment checks, lubrication, and tuning on heavy production machinery, conveyors, and automated equipment.
- Plant Infrastructure Support: Diagnose, maintain, and repair critical industrial building systems including HVAC, high-voltage electrical distribution, compressed air systems, plumbing, and facility fire/security infrastructure.
- Tooling & Fabrication: Support production, industrialization, and maintenance teams with the fabrication, welding, construction, or repair of racks, fixtures, and structural systems.
- Documentation & Inventory: Complete detailed maintenance logs, work orders, and root-cause documentation via the CMMS. Track and maintain critical spare parts inventory.
- Contractor Oversight: Coordinate with and oversee specialized outside contractors performing certified industrial inspections or major equipment overhauls.
- Environmental & EHS Support: Support hazardous waste management programs, including the safe identification, storage, handling, and preparation of industrial waste for recycling or disposal.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Minimize Equipment Downtime: Directly optimize Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) on critical production lines.
- CMMS Precision: Efficiently utilize the computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, close out PMs on schedule, and retain technical equipment histories.
- Regulatory & Code Compliance: Ensure all machinery modifications and facility repairs are highly durable and comply with OSHA, NEC, EPA, and company safety standards.
- Asset Inspection Tracking: Monitor and maintain accurate records for mandatory facility and equipment inspections, including air compressors, pressure vessels, cranes/hoists, and fire suppression systems.
- Safety Leadership: Strictly adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, and Arc Flash safety protocols. Identify and report hazards immediately.
- Plant Layout Optimization: Assist engineering teams with equipment rigging, installation, and facility layout changes to improve production flow.
Hazardous Waste Responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable RCRA and EPA hazardous waste requirements.
- Support or complete accurate hazardous waste determinations for manufacturing byproducts.
- Properly package, label, store, and transfer hazardous waste to approved onsite accumulation areas.
- Support full compliance with local, Alabama State (ADEM), and federal environmental regulations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent, plus 3 to 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing or highly automated environment.
- Preferred: Associate degree in Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Maintenance Technology, or a completed relevant apprenticeship.
Technical Skills & Certifications
- Advanced troubleshooting skills in industrial electricity (480V 3-phase), PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical drive systems.
- Proficiency with digital multimeters, diagnostic tools, and PC-based CMMS platforms.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain; renewals supported by company).
- RCRA and DOT hazardous materials certifications are highly preferred.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and navigate an active manufacturing floor continuously throughout the shift.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in tight spaces or at heights (ladders, lifts).
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, and maneuver tools and machinery components weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working around high-speed moving machinery, automated robotics, and loud industrial environments.
- Ability to work effectively in both climate-controlled automation zones and ESD-protected environments.
