Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Nurse Manager of NICU RN to oversee the clinical operations of our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The ideal candidate will possess extensive critical care experience, including NICU, PICU, or Level I/II trauma center backgrounds, and demonstrate strong leadership skills in managing nursing staff. This role involves coordinating patient care, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards such as HIPAA and NCQA, and fostering a collaborative environment to deliver exceptional neonatal care. The Nurse Manager will play a vital role in maintaining high-quality patient outcomes through effective team management and adherence to best practices in neonatal medicine.
Duties
- Lead and supervise NICU nursing staff, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and standards of care.
- Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations for neonatal patients.
- Coordinate complex medical procedures including ventilator management, IV infusion, catheterization, and tube feeding.
- Ensure accurate medical documentation utilizing EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, Epic, or Athenahealth.
- Manage discharge planning, family education, and follow-up care for neonates and their families.
- Conduct staff scheduling, performance evaluations, and provide ongoing training on aseptic technique, infection control, and advanced neonatal procedures like spinal taps or cardiac catheterization.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians specializing in neonatology, cardiology, and behavioral health to optimize patient outcomes.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA, NCQA standards, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and utilization review processes.
- Facilitate quality assurance initiatives focusing on infection control, acute pain management, and neonatal ventilator or oxygen therapy protocols.
- Participate in hospital committees related to neonatal care quality improvement and staff education.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current registration; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s preferred.
- Extensive critical care experience in NICU/PICU settings; Level I/II trauma center experience highly desirable.
- Proven leadership skills with supervising experience in a hospital environment; nurse management certification preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, Epic (including modules like eClinicalWorks), or Athenahealth.
- Strong knowledge of neonatal physiology, medical terminology related to pediatrics/neonatology, and advanced patient assessment techniques.
- Experience with neonatal ventilators, IV insertion/injection administration, catheter care, specimen collection/processing, and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with ICD-9/10 coding systems for accurate documentation and billing processes.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams while demonstrating excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex cases involving neonatal respiratory support or developmental disabilities care such as Alzheimer’s or memory care when applicable.
