EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
As a Librarian, Branch Manager, you’ll lead a dynamic team dedicated to providing exceptional library services, programs, and outreach to a diverse community. You’ll help shape the vision for your branch, support staff development, and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.You’ll serve as both a leader and collaborator—managing daily operations, mentoring staff, and ensuring the library remains a vital hub of learning, connection, and discovery. Your responsibilities may include: Overseeing daily branch operations, ensuring smooth workflows, responsive service, and a positive patron experienceSupervising, coaching, and evaluating staff; fostering professional growth and a collaborative team culturePlanning, supporting, and promoting engaging programs for all ages in collaboration with staff and community partnersActing as a liaison to local organizations, schools, and neighborhood groups to strengthen community connectionsManaging the branch collection, including selection, weeding, and merchandising of materialsServing as the primary point of contact for customer concerns, policy enforcement, and safety issuesMonitoring facility needs and coordinating with appropriate departments for maintenance and improvementsProviding friendly, knowledgeable customer service and modeling service excellence for staffStaying informed about library trends, technologies, and best practices—and guiding your team through changeContributing to system-wide initiatives, strategic planning, and service innovationsSupporting budget planning and resource allocation to meet community and branch prioritiesAs Branch Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping not only your library’s daily operations, but also its lasting impact on the community.To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.Spanish language skills are a plus.
