Duties
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to enhance their comfort and independence.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety protocols.
- Facilitate patient transfers using equipment like Hoyer lifts or manual handling techniques while maintaining safe lifting practices.
- Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations and ensuring secure handling of medical records and documentation.
- Observe and report changes in patient conditions promptly to nursing staff, especially in critical care or trauma settings such as Level I or Level II trauma centers.
- Engage with patients experiencing dementia or Alzheimer's disease with specialized memory care techniques to promote safety and well-being.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program.
- Experience working with diverse populations including geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring hospice or palliative care.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for delivering safe patient care.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling safely while following safe lifting practices.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required; CPR certification is highly preferred.
- Prior experience in settings such as hospitals (including ICU or emergency medicine), nursing homes, outpatient clinics, or home & community care is advantageous.
