The Sales Support Engineer is responsible for combining technical knowledge with customer-facing skills to identify opportunities, propose solutions, and support clients throughout the sales and product development process. Responsibilities include working closely with clients and internal engineering and supply chain teams and clients to assess needs, illustrate how products or services address customer challenges, and provide support for the technical components of the sales process. This position reports to the Executive Vice President.
Our ideal candidate will have experience performing the following product development, sourcing, and marketing job duties, preferably within a manufacturing/distribution environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Engage with clients to understand technical requirements, specifications, and sourcing needs
- Prepare technical quotations and proposals.
- Collaborate with internal engineering, procurement, and supplier teams to ensure accurate and competitive proposals
- Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and identify opportunities for new business
- Provide feedback to engineering and sourcing teams regarding customer trends and market needs
- Analyze and interpret new product drawings/specifications.
- Manage customer facing communication related to product development, sourcing, costing, and pre-production
- Field all technical customer inquiries as liaison to design, materials, and production teams.
- Represent customer needs and requirements within the R&D team, advocating for solutions that maximize customer satisfaction and product value.
- Collect, analyze, and communicate post-launch customer feedback to inform product improvements and future development.
- Collaborate with design and troubleshoot construction, quality, and development issues.
- All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company
Skills, Experience, & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred. Degree in project management, business, or other related field may also be considered.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles
- Knowledge of supply chain, sourcing processes, materials, or industrial products
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Customer-oriented attitude with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Experience with textiles a plus
- Excellent understanding of product development, product costs, production lead times, speed to market strategies, assortment, and fabric positioning is desired
- Strong MS Office, including Excel, Sharepoint, PowerPoint, Project
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral is essential
- Ability to influence decisions with cross-functional teams.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to work proactively and problem solve
- Must be fluent in English. Ability to read/write or speak foreign languages is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good judgement and decision-making ability.
- Ability to multitask and work in fast paced environment
