The Registered Nurse (RN) -Emergency Department (ED) will be responsible for delegation, supervision, and provision of evidence-based nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. Provides age appropriate patient care. Provides age appropriate patient care. Implements evidence-based findings into practice and participates in research as appropriate. (FT NIGHTS)

Qualifications:
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
-
Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
- Maintains Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
-
Maintains ACLS provider, PALS provider (must be completed within 12 months of hire)
-
TNCC or TNS, ECRN or ENPC certifications preferred.
Experience:

Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels as follows (12 months experience as a registered nurse is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder):
-
Clinical Nurse I: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 0-12 credits on the Clinical Ladder
- Behavior Grid. BSN preferred.

Clinical Nurse II: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 13-24 credits on the Clinical Ladder
- Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least two categories of the Grid. BSN preferred.

Clinical Nurse III: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 25 credits on the Clinical Ladder
- Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. BSN
- required.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Attends all hospital/nurse manager specified mandatory in-services.

Maintains competencies as identified in unit specific requirements.

Completion of self-evaluation. It is the incumbent's responsibility to submit to the nurse manager at annual evaluation time documentation to validate annual credentialing requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcome, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

Interviews patients and /or family to obtain required history and determine appropriate Triage status.

Assists physicians with multiple bedside procedures including but not limited to chest tube insertion, intubation, suturing, lumbar puncture, etc.

Accurately cares for patients receiving forensic care, ie. Blood alcohol levels, workers compensation, rape, patient abuse.

Provides patient teaching relative to presenting conditions.

Assures that department is survey-ready at all times.

Communicates effectively with ED physicians and team members.

Provides safe patient care during patient transport utilizing appropriate protocols.

Performs other related work as required or requested.
