Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of P.W. Gillibrand Co., Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiaries by maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing reconciliations, supporting month-end and year-end close activities, and assisting with compliance, reporting, payroll-related funding, tax filings, and audit requests.
This role works closely with Finance, Human Resources, and operational teams to ensure transactions are recorded timely and accurately, account balances are properly supported, and financial information is complete, reliable, and available for management review and business decision-making.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, organized, and comfortable working with confidential information, accounting systems, Excel-based reporting, generally accepted accounting principles, and deadline-driven accounting processes.
JOB DUTIES
· Prepare, review, and post journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications in accordance with GAAP, company procedures, and established deadlines.
· Maintain general ledger records, reconcile balance sheet accounts, analyze variances, research discrepancies, and prepare supporting schedules.
· Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, financial statement support, and related reporting.
· Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice review, payment support, collections support, and transaction coding as needed.
· Process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and benefit contributions while maintaining compliance with applicable payroll laws and regulations.
· Prepare and remit payroll-related payments, including garnishments, and coordinate timely funding support for payroll and 401(k) contributions as directed.
· Prepare, file, and remit monthly and/or quarterly sales and use tax reports and provide data for annual business tax renewals and license filings.
· Assist with budgeting support, fixed asset accounting, inventory, account analysis, compliance filings, governmental reporting, and special finance projects.
· Knowledge of intercompany transactions, eliminations and subsidiary accounting a plus.
· Use Excel and accounting systems to prepare reports, analyze data, improve processes, and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of accounting workflows.
· Communicate professionally with internal departments, auditors, vendors, and other stakeholders to obtain information, answer questions, and resolve accounting matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA, CPA candidate, or relevant advanced coursework preferred.
· Minimum two years of related accounting experience in a corporate, public accounting, or similar business environment; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, account analysis, tax-related accounting concepts, and internal controls.
· Experience with accounting or ERP systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Xero, or similar platforms preferred.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, including spreadsheets, formulas, reconciliations, data analysis, and reporting.
· Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, organization, analytical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and contribute effectively in a team environment.
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
· Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT
- Office environment with standard working hours.
- May be required to work extended hours during month-end close, year-end close, payroll deadlines, audits, tax filings, or other peak business periods.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, use close vision, and use hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and computer work.
- This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Pay: $73,043.00 - $80,423.00 per year
