Class 101 of Camarillo is looking for a strong writer and thoughtful editor to collaborate with our college planning team and support high school students with college application essays, personal statements, UC Personal Insight Questions, Common App essays, and supplemental essays.
This is a part-time, flexible role ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring students, understands storytelling, and can help students express their ideas clearly, authentically, and effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Edit college application essays for clarity, structure, tone, grammar, and impact
- Provide constructive feedback while preserving the student’s authentic voice
- Support students with UC PIQs, Common App essays, supplemental essays, scholarship essays, and activity descriptions
- Collaborate with the college counselor to align essays with each student’s overall application strategy
- Meet with students individually, in person or online, as needed
- Track progress and meet agreed-upon deadlines
Ideal Qualifications:
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
- Experience with college essays, admissions writing, tutoring, teaching, journalism, creative writing, or academic writing
- Ability to work with high school students in a supportive and encouraging way
- Strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with UC applications, Common App, or college admissions is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree required; English, writing, education, communications, humanities, or related field preferred
