POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Assistant Child Care Director ensures quality and viability of WOODSON YMCA child care services, including: licensed child care, school age programs, and 4K programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Helps foster a cause-driven, mission-focused culture among staff and volunteers.
- Assumes leadership responsibilities when the Director is absent.
- Supports the implementation of curriculum, screening tools, and assessment practices.
- Provides classroom coaching to ensure curriculum fidelity and high-quality instruction.
- Helps maintain compliance with state licensing, YoungStar, and other accreditation requirements.
- Conducts regular classroom checks to ensure safety, ratio compliance, and adherence to policies.
- Assists with staff scheduling, time-off requests, and daily classroom coverage.
- Participates in interviewing, onboarding, and training new staff.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with families, assisting with communication and problem-solving.
- Assists with maintaining child records, staff files, attendance, and daily operational documentation.
- Supports enrollment processes, tours, waitlists, and parent inquiries.
- Participates in YMCA initiatives, campaigns, and required events.
- Supports the Director with projects, improvements, and special assignments.
- Completes additional responsibilities as needed to maintain smooth daily operations.

- The employee will be required to drive to trainings and between the organization’s multiple branches.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three or more years of related experience working in management of licensed child care settings
- Ability to direct total operations through staff development and monitoring of department budget
- YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification (preferred)
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
the community
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Commitment to the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
- Certification required within 30 days of hire: CPR, AED, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention & Recognition
- Training Requirements:
- Ongoing: remain current in trends related to Early Care and Learning and must attend all necessary YMCA, child care and/or grant related training.
