Responsibilities
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using manual handling techniques and transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor patients’ health by taking vital signs, observing changes in condition, and reporting findings accurately to healthcare professionals.
- Support medication administration following care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure safety and compliance.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal planning and preparation.
- Provide patient transportation assistance within facilities or community settings to appointments or activities.
- Maintain detailed documentation of care provided, patient progress, and any incidents in accordance with privacy standards such as HIPAA.
- Assist with light housekeeping duties including cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe environment for residents or clients.
Skills
- Prior experience working in group homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home health environments is highly desirable.
- Strong patient observation skills to detect changes in condition or behavior related to dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum disorder, or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Knowledge of care plans, medication administration protocols, and patient monitoring techniques.
- Proficiency in assisting with ADLs such as personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, and mobility support.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting and patient transfers safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Familiarity with dementia care, memory care practices, hospice care principles, and geriatrics is advantageous.
- Excellent client communication skills to foster trust and ensure comfort during caregiving activities.
- Certifications such as CPR/First Aid are preferred; ongoing training in patient safety is encouraged.
