Experienced Machinist – Mt. Vernon, IL
TRM NRE is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our team at our Mt. Vernon, Illinois facility.

Our Machinists operate a variety of machine tools to manufacture and repair locomotive and industrial components while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Essential Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes, mills, drill presses, and surface grinders.
- Read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, and work instructions.
- Review setup sheets and specifications to determine machining sequence and finished part dimensions.
- Load workpieces into fixtures according to process sheets and established procedures.
- Operate machine controls and enter commands as required to complete machining operations.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and other measuring tools.
- Verify product dimensions meet specifications and make machine adjustments as necessary.
- Monitor machine operation and identify issues such as worn or damaged tooling.
- Change cutting tools and reposition workpieces as required during the machining process.
- Report quality concerns, equipment issues, or production discrepancies to the Supervisor or Production Manager.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, workplace etiquette, and work rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience operating lathes, mills, drill presses, and surface grinders.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tolerances, and quality standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Positive attitude with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing/shop environment.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment and vibration.
- Occasional exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
- Moderate noise levels.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and safely perform the physical requirements of the position.
