Position Overview:
The Community Relations Specialist will drive membership (customer) growth and member (customer) engagement through face-to-face interactions with influential parties within our core sponsor group (US Dept. of Veterans Affairs), community groups and other businesses within our community. The Community Relations Specialist’s role is to build relationships and open lines of communication between the credit union and its partners by emphasizing the financial benefits of credit union membership.
Responsibilities:
- Drive membership growth by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with applicable US Department of Veterans Affairs locations, other community businesses (SEGs) and various other community-based partners.
- Organizing and/or actively participating in community events, networking events, membership drives and other credit union sponsored events during and after normal business hours which may occasionally include weekends.
- Effectively presenting information about the credit union in one-on-one, small, and large group settings. Developing and delivering professional presentations promoting the benefits of credit union membership for designated SEGs and community groups.
- Maintaining an understanding of credit union products, services, policies and procedures in order to promote the credit union in interactions with stakeholders.
- Conducting member surveys to determine member satisfaction, community needs and the credit union’s ability to meet those needs.
- Gathering member testimonials to be included in various marketing materials.
- Working with the Marketing Department to develop and/or position credit union products in a way that benefits SEGs and/or community stakeholders.
- Coordinate periodic visits with our SEGs, community influencers and community groups for presentations to promote new/existing products and services.
- Preparing reports for management outlining member relationship activities, highlighting progress in driving membership growth and member engagement.
- Maintaining a current database of all SEG contacts, community group contacts and community influencers.
- Serving as the primary liaison for community relationships to showcase the credit union as a valuable benefit and community partner.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Outgoing, professional personality that communicates to members, prospects, and community partners that the Credit Union is a professional financial institution, dedicated to promoting their financial well-being and becoming a lifetime financial partner.
- Ability to express oneself, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently.
- General knowledge of financial institution products and services.
- Experience in sales or customer service roles such as retail sales, business development, marketing, grass roots advocacy or community relations preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and various video conferencing software (Zoom, Teams, etc.).
- Flexibility to travel to multiple branches and offsite venues, primarily within the DC metropolitan area, as well as occasional travel to PA and NY offices which may require overnight stays (approx. 20%).
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
- Experience building personal relationships in a face-to-face environment.
- This position is not eligible for remote work due to the nature of the tasks involved.
Additional Comments:
Salary Range: $46,000-$56,000 annually
